Custom Diffractive Optical Element Applications

Custom Diffractive Optical Element Applications

Highly customized laser projected patterns in any color meeting detailed optical specifications at any working distance.

The Challenge

Many laser systems require a diffractive optical element (DOE) to project unique laser patterns for human and/or machine vision applications.  Some desired patterns can be generated with off-the-shelf DOEs, while others require a custom DOE specifically designed to meet that customers’ unique optical requirements.

Our Solution

By leveraging our extensive experience collaborating with top-tier DOE manufacturers, DLC successfully designs and manufactures unique laser solutions for Custom Diffractive Optical Element Applications.

  • Deep understanding of the customers’ optical requirements.
  • Close collaboration with the custom DOE manufacturer ensuring necessary optical parameters are communicated.
  • Designing a laser module/system that supports optimum DOE performance.
  • Supporting an iterative approach as necessary.

How It Works

Utilizing a microstructured surface profile and the diffractive nature of light, DOEs can generate a limitless array of laser light patterns.  Employing such elements requires careful consideration of numerous optical parameters and the customer’s intended projection plane.  DLC’s proprietary alignment techniques ensure exacting optical alignment tolerances necessary for the most demanding specifications.

  • Wavelengths ranging from violet to NIR.
  • Wavelength and polarization matching for optimum DOE performance.
  • Effective thermal management of diode ensuring minimal wavelength drift.
  • Focusing optics to produce highly-focused patterns at the intended working distance.
  • Diffractive focal power control for pattern focusing at highly inclined planes.
